Police investigate 14-year-old riding bicycle struck by sheriff’s deputy

An investigation is underway after a Brunswick County, N.C., sheriff’s deputy hit a 14-year-old boy riding a bicycle in the Bolivia area, according to authorities.

Deputy Andrew Lentz was on duty driving a county vehicle at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday when the car crashed with the teen, who was riding a bicycle along Danford Road, according to Sgt. April Stanley with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released for minor injuries, Stanley said. Lentz was treated and released from Dosher Memorial Hospital.

Troopers with the N.C. Highway Patrol and the Division of Professional Standards with the sheriff’s office are investigating the crash. No charges have been filed.
