A California man drown while kayaking in Brunswick County, N.C., according to the Holden Beach Police Department.
Raymond Joseph Draker, 55, of San Rafael, Calif., was found floating in the water near Lockwood Folly Inlet off Holden Beach at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, according Holden Beach Police Chief Wallace W. Layne.
Police said Draker was kayaking with a family member when his kayak was overtaken by waves when he attempted to exit the inlet into the ocean, according to Layne. His family member lost contact with Draker and later found his empty kayak.
Soon after, police were called for a possible body floating in the water where Draker was found, Layne said. Holden Beach police, Tri-Beach Fire Department, Brunswick County EMS and Coastline Rescue responded to the incident.

Authorities began CPR on Draker when he was found, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Brunswick Community Hospital, Layne said.
