Go with the chip
I get this question all the time: "Brad how far away can I chip from?" I think this answer depends on the level of the golfer. Higher handicappers should always chip more often when they are around the green versus pitching. Getting the ball high in the air is always more difficult for the higher handicapper than chipping it (rolling it) onto the green. I will have them chip from as far as 20 yards from the green. All I want them to do is get it to the green. Once they improve I will introduce pitching. But I will always contend that chipping the ball onto the green is easier than pitching. So if you are a short distance from the green - 2 to 20 yards - and you think you can chip or pitch it - chip it.
