Area briefs: Pelicans unveil new Web site

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, have unveiled their all-new Web site at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.

The Pelicans are now members of the MLB Baseball Advanced Media (BAM) network of websites, joining dozens of other Minor League Baseball clubs from coast-to-coast.

High school softball

Green (Ohio) 7, Carolina Forest 2 | At Pepper Geddings, the Panthers gave up four first-inning runs en route to a loss in the Grand Strand Softball Classic.

Marissa Runyon had a hit and drove in a run for Carolina Forest.

Junior golf

Renwick Easton of Punxsutawney, Pa. fired a 2-under 70 to lead after the first round of the 7th Annual Junior Shootout at Myrtle Beach National.

Austin Frick and Beau Teal, both of Myrtle Beach, are two shots and four shots back, respectively.

Frick shot even-par 72, while Teal fired a 2-over 74.

In the girls' overall division, Katy Funk of Spartanburg has a two-shot lead after shotting an opening-round 76.

Rachel Moore of Lexington is second after a 78.

The final round is scheduled for today at 11:30 a.m. on the West course.
