Myrtle Beach teen tried to assault brother with knife, baseball bat

A 13-year-old Myrtle Beach boy tried to assault his younger brother with a knife and a baseball bat while they were being watched by a babysitter, according to a police report.

The 29-year-old mother of the boys told police that between 6 and 7 p.m. Monday at Colonial Apartments located at 3500 N. Oak St., the older boy tried to attack the younger boy, police said.

The babysitter told police that the boys, ages 13 and 11, were playing a video game systems when the older boy got upset because the younger boy was dancing around when he started winning at the game, according to the report. The older boy retrieved a baseball bat and started chasing the younger boy before she stopped him from hitting the younger boy.

The boys started playing the game again, but the younger boy teased and danced around the older boy again, according to the report. The older boy got a knife from the top of the refrigerator in the kitchen and the woman restrained the boy from reaching his younger brother.

The woman told police the older boy threatened to kill the younger boy before he dropped the knife and started crying, according to the report. Family members took the teen to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.
