Mount St. Joseph (Md.) guard Eric Atkins scored or assisted 16 points during an 18-4 second-half run for the Gaels. Atkins capped off the run with a behind-the-back-pass to Phil Lawrence for an easy layup. The Notre Dame signee finished the game with 20 points five assists and four steals to lead Mount St. Joe past J.L. Mann.

Jelan Kendrick grabbed an offensive rebound with five seconds remaining and unselfishly found teammate Joey Jerome underneath the basket for a game-winning layup. Fittingly, Jerome and Kendrick combined for 25 of the Wildcats' 42 rebounds and 30 of their 52 points in a one-point victory over Nichols (N.Y.)

Both semifinal matchups lived up to their hype. Columbia (Ga.) and Cedar Hill (Texas) exchanged leads eight times and were tied seven times before JerShon Cobb sank two late free throws to give the Eagles a four-point lead to set up a championship matchup against Bishop Gorman (Nev.). In the nightcap, Bishop Gorman's Roscoe Allen drilled a three to give the Gaels the lead for good with 2:08 to play. The game was tied nine times and there were just as many lead changes.
