He counts on yoga, good night's sleep

Russell Simmons,

founder of Def Jam Records and Phat Farm

Q: How do you keep it all together? What centers you?

A: I practice yoga every day because you need time for yourself. Remember, silence is important; silence is golden. It's good to spend time in silence -- that's how I keep it together.

I make sure I sleep at least six hours at night because of all the different things and different businesses I have going on. Luckily, we have a lot of talented, smart and creative people on my team. My businesses include Rush Foundation, Hip Hop Summit and Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, and I get through it all because of the talented people around me. We try to do things that benefit people and suit our resources; we have to make sure we give back.

The only way to receive is by giving and if you know that and give freely and unconditionally, it will bring you a greater benefit. When you realize that, you start giving more. When you wake up in the morning, you have to decide what you're going to give, not what you're going to get.
