Shop offers spa services, jewelry

Walk into the new Beach Divas Beauty Boutique at the Hollywood Beach Resort and customers can't help but feel relaxed and comfortable.

The owners, Diana Ward and Kathy Scarboro, have designed a store with a retail area in front, where walls and furniture are covered in lush velvets and diaphanous silks.

Unique purses, earrings, shawls and tank tops dot the front. A luxurious spa room in back uses softly patterned fabric to create a sensuous look unlike the sterile designs of many spas.

Ward and Scarboro met when Ward worked at the Jose Eber Salon in Bal Harbour. Scarboro came in for a facial, and the two discovered they had much in common.

Ward, an aesthetician with 28 years experience, has a satellite business of loyal clients in New York whom she sees once a month. According to a press release, Ward has been recognized for her innovative therapies for the face and body with appearances on Extra, Fox News and The Today Show.

Her treatments include micro-dermabrasion with diamond-tipped tools; noninvasive lymphatic drainage; Chinese color therapy using light; electronic facial toning; and reflexology. A popular take-home skin care product is the Meg-21 and Meg-32 line.

''When people leave here I want them to feel relaxed, refreshed and beautiful,'' Ward said.

Scarboro buys jewelry and accessories for the shop. Her picks include hand-beaded tops and purses; scarves and shawls; sterling silver jewelry, some set with stones; hand-fashioned chokers; and bracelets made with crystal from the Czech Republic.

Also featured are marine-themed watercolor paintings by local artist Sonny Paige.

''I got started in jewelry when I worked for Bailey, Banks & Biddle,'' Scarboro said. ``I also traveled a lot. I'd seen very unique pieces in places I'd visited.

''We decided the beach was the way to go for a location for our business,'' Scarboro said, noting the recent renovations to the beach and Hollywood Broadwalk.
