Looking for some casual grub? Or an abundance of craft beer? Then stop by a new place on U.S. 501 — The Grumpy Monk. That’s where we went for happy hour this week.
The Grumpy Monk is located on U.S. 501 in the building that used to house Flaming Asian Bistro. The establishment is large, with a long granite bar as you walk in the door. In the dining area there are numerous wooden tables and a sushi bar. There’s a back room with three pool tables, plus you’ll find darts and games such as Golden Tee.
You will also spot a number of chalkboards listing craft beers, specials and some notable quotes such as “Always be yourself, unless you can be Batman ... then, always be Batman.”
The Grumpy Monk is a New Orleans-style pub with a laid-back atmosphere. It attracts a mix of locals, visitors, golfers, college students and families. The locale has live music on Fridays, and will soon host trivia on Wednesday nights.
If you enjoy craft beer, The Grumpy Monk has you covered. There are 30 beers on tap and 50 different bottled beers to choose from. You can also snag martinis or figure-friendly drinks that contain less calories than standard drinks. The food menu offers a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, burgers and sushi.
You can get deals on food and drinks during happy hour, which runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Drink specials include $4.50 draft beers, $2 domestic bottled beers, $2.75 well drinks and $3 wines. Food specials include appetizers such as chicken tenders, potato wedges, calamari and chicken wings for $6 or less. You can also snag great deals on sushi during happy hour, when a number of rolls are less than six bucks.
