Did we find ABBA’s favorite happy hour hangout in Myrtle Beach?

THE LOCALE | Mama Mia Restaurant and Bar

THE LOWDOWN | In our eternal quest to stake out new and different happy hour specials along the Grand Strand, we happened upon Mama Mia Restaurant and Bar, so that's where we went for happy hour this week. Mama Mia Restaurant and Bar is located on Robert Grissom Parkway in the same building as Core Fitness (which used to be American Athletic.) The Mama Mia Pizzeria and Ice Cream shop, which has been in the location for a few years, expanded last year to offer a bar and dining area.

There are a handful of booths, a few high-top tables and an L-shaped bar in the back of the addition that seats about a dozen people. Mostly locals frequent the family-owned establishment. The atmosphere is relaxing and laid back. The establishment is non-smoking and clean. A few pieces of artwork hang on the walls, and so do a handful of TVs behind the bar. The menu offers fresh hand-tossed pizzas, pasta, subs, salads, appetizers and dessert, plus you can get ice cream by the scoop since the ice cream shop is next door. You can cash in on some dining deals during happy hour.

Happy hour runs from 4 to 7 p.m. daily. Food specials include $5 small pizzas, $5 wings, $5 salads, $4 meatballs, and $4 bread sticks. Cheese sticks, cheese bread and Mia's bread run you less than four bucks. Drink deals include $3 liquors, $2 domestic drafts and $3 import drafts. You can also snag $4 Jagermeister, $4.50 Fireball shots, $1 discount on all liquors and $2 discount on pitchers.

TIPS | On Thursdays starting at 9 p.m., Clara Formoso, owner of By the Sea Dance Studio, offers free Latin and ballroom lessons. You can also snag drink deals during that time.
