AD Koegel, CCU agree to extension
By Travis Sawchik - tsawchik@thesunnews.com
Coastal Carolina athletics director Warren "Moose" Koegel has signed a one-year contract extension with the university. His previous three-year contract was set to expire June 30.
"I've been very pleased with all of athletics, not only exceptional performance on the field but also academic [accomplishments]," CCU president David DeCenzo said.
During Koegel's tenure, Coastal has added football, hosted an NCAA regional in baseball and hired heralded men's basketball coach Cliff Ellis.
Koegel is in his eighth year with the school.
DeCenzo said the contract was agreed to several weeks ago and that it shouldn't be considered a luke-warm statement because of its length.
DeCenzo said the contract length was designed to continue the "conversation."
"In the early fall we will sit down and look at the whole future," DeCenzo said.
Koegel said he is fine with the one-year agreement.
"[DeCenzo] and I are so wrapped up in so many things right now," Koegel said. "I love it here at Coastal. We have a lot to do and a lot to work on."
Contract details were not immediately available.
