Teammates Shand and Reed win Grand Strand match games

Bowling league teemmates Alex Shand and Darryl Reed dominated the 9th Annual Grand Strand Match Games Tournament Sunday at Surfside Beach. Shand, qualifying first in the Classic Division by averaging 247, beat Tony Todd, 236 to 210 in the final rolloff. Included in his qualifying block was a 300 game and an 844 series. Todd also rolled a 300 during his qualifying block.
Reed qualified 2nd in the Senior Division and finished the final game with 8 strikes in a row to edge the qualifying leader, Phil Belisle who finished with the last 7 strikes, 236 to 225 for the senior title. Belisle averaged 227 for his six game block.
The Classic Division had eighteen bowlers competing for 5 roll-off positions. In addition to Shand and Todd, Mike Albert, Sal Marsicano, Jr. and Brandon Deem made the finals. Marsicano defeated Deem, 213 to 198, Todd defeated Marsicano, 248 to 220 and then defeated Albert, 239 to 237. Seventeen bowlers rolled in the Senior Division with Ray Ghantt and Jack Vilaca joining Belisle and Reed in the finals. Ghantt beat Vilaca, 205 to 192 and Reed defeated Ghantt, 255 to 183.
