Matt Reel couldn’t have been very happy with his team’s performance in the second half on Friday night.
Fortunately for the coach, the first half for his North Myrtle Beach team was a sight to behold.
The Chiefs turned a matchup of undefeated teams into a mismatch, with a dominant first half allowing them to cruise to a 41-7 win over Socastee.
Kered Class rushed for 170 of his 194 yards in the first half, along with a pair of touchdowns. Quarterback Cason McClendon was also efficient, throwing for two more scores.
“We talked a lot about starting fast, and tonight our guys started fast,” Reel said. “Defense played tremendous, getting the ball back to us, three-and-outs. They got a first down here and there, but we wanted to control the football.
“… We did a good job of that, especially the first two quarters.”
In the second half, tempers began to flare on both sides, causing officials to eject a few players.
Socastee football coach Doug Illing said his only regret is that it took that for his team to fight back.
“I may regret saying this, but maybe we need them to get hit in the jaw a few times before the game, make them mad a bit,” he said. “But the main thing is we learned a thing about physicality. They were the more physical team than us and we have to learn from it.”
Quarterback Hunter Illing completed 8 of his 13 passes, but only for 104 yards. Dashaun Myers had the only touchdown for Socastee on the night.
On North Myrtle Beach’s first drive of the game, Kered Class burst through for a 54-yard touchdown, setting the Chiefs on their way to an easy win.
Kered Class, North Myrtle Beach: Rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
Tyler Gore, North Myrtle Beach: Scored on an 82-yard kickoff return, along with forcing a fumble.
Torass Rice, North Myrtle Beach: Was in on eight tackles, along with a sack.
