CHARLESTON Michael Billings ran 24 times for 209 yards and two touchdowns, Jarvis Brown threw four touchdown passes and Daquan Gibson ran seven times for 101 yards and a touchdown to lead the Georgetown High football team to a 39-14 victory over James Island that pushed the Bulldogs to 3-0.
It was the passing game, however, that opened it up for Georgetown, coach Bradley Adams said.
“The way they were playing us, they were trying to take our run game away,” he said. “By going through the air we were fortunate enough to get them to where we could run the ball effectively. That was the game plan going in.”
It resulted in many long runs and the Bulldogs also benefited from a pair of interceptions by Zaquan Collins.
“It’s just a very special group of kids,” Adams said. “We lost another kid tonight in the second quarter [to injury]. A freshman inside linebacker stepped in and got the job done. It’s just one of those football teams. It’s not the most athletic group; it’s just a special group of kids that will try to find a way. We’re just real happy with the effort they’ve given.”
Jarvis Brown ran for 70 yards on 13 carries and was 11-for-14 for 194 yards through the air. Jordan Manigalt also scored a touchdown for Georgetown, which takes on county rival Carvers Bay next week.
“We’ve still got some things to get better at,” Adams said. “We had too many penalties we’ve got to clean that up. We’ve just got to get healthy. We’re just not healthy right now.”
