Berkeley (5-6) at Socastee (11-0)
When | 7:30 p.m.
The game | As everyone at Socastee will tell you, this isn’t your average 5-6 team coming to play the Braves. Berkeley lost its first four games of the year – including three to Class AAAA teams – while it made it through the non-region portion of the schedule with a handful of significant injuries. Then, in the team’s fifth game, the Stags took down Timberland, one of the best teams in all of Class AA. Coach Jeff Cruce’s team has a long way to go to add a sixth state title to its trophy case. However, this is a team that obviously can’t be taken lightly. Berkeley has a high ceiling, as displayed by that win over Timberland and last week’s 24-2 win over Midland Valley. And don’t take the revenge factor out of it, either. Socastee won its second-ever playoff game a season ago by beating Berkeley 41-7 in the first round. It ended one of the most frustrating seasons in Berkeley history, and the Stags would surely like flip that around this season.
