The St. James football program has a new head coach.
The hiring of Mark Fischer to take over that post was approved by the Horry County Schools Board of Education at a regularly scheduled meeting Monday night.
St. James will officially announce the hiring of Fischer during a press conference today at the high school.
Fischer had been the head coach at Louisa High School in Virginia, where he led last season's team to a 10-0 regular-season record and 11-1 overall.
Billy Hurston resigned as St. James football coach Nov. 10 following a 2-9 season that earned the Sharks their second playoff berth in program history. Hurston, the only head football coach in the program's short history, went 16-56 in his seven seasons as St. James coach.
Hurston, who still teaches at the school, said at the time of his resignation that the decision to step down was "100 percent my choice."
