Seven of the area’s top basketball players made their way to Columbia this weekend, taking part in the South Carolina Top 80 basketball showcase hosted by the Phenom Hoops Report.
Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach was well represented at the event, with four of its standout players taking part in Justin Busby, Mike Green, Robert Guyton and Anton Smith. Conway’s Jimmy Nichols and Darren Stanley attended, along with Andrew Gardner of Socastee.
While each of them made a splash, none made as much of an impact as Nichols, the 6-foot-7 center drawing praise from those at the showcase.
“At last year’s South Carolina Top 80, Nichols opened eyes as a junk yard dog who produced,” according to the Phenom Hoops Report. “This season, Nichols has taken his game to a new level. He has grown a couple of inches to his long and wide shoulders. Nichols has also expanded his game.”
The Conway junior has an offer from Longwood University, with the College of Charleston having also paid him a visit in recent weeks.
Expect more in coming weeks for the local hoops standout.
