Two days after pulling out a thrilling triple-overtime win over High Point to force a tie atop the standings and claim the Big South’s regular-season championship via tiebreaker, the Charleston Southern men’s basketball team was decorated with a couple prestigious awards Monday.
Senior guard Saah Nimley, who scored 38 points in that 97-93 win over High Point, was named the Big South Player of the Year while the Buccaneers’ Barclay Radebaugh was named Coach of the Year.
On the women’s side, High Point senior forward Stacia Robertson was named player of the year while Radford’s Mike McGuire earned coach of the year honors.
Coastal Carolina, meanwhile, was represented on both lists as senior guard AJ Jordan was named first-team All-Big South for the Chanticleer women and senior guard Warren Gillis earned second-team honors for the men while senior teammate Josh Cameron was an honorable mention selection.

As for the respective players of the year, Nimley averages a Big South-best 21.5 points per game (25.6 in conference games) while Robertson ranks third in the league in scoring at 15.8 points per game and second in rebounding at 10.2 per game on the women’s side.
For the Chants, Jordan, who finished second in the player of the year voting, leads the conference in scoring at 17.0 points per game.
Gillis averages 13.0 points for the Coastal Carolina men while ranking second on the team with 91 assists. Cameron leads the team in scoring while averaging 13.2 points per game with a team-high 60 3-pointers.
Also for the Coastal Carolina women, Jas Adams made the Big South’s all-freshman team, Jordan was an all-academic selection and for the men, junior forward Tristian Curtis was also recognized on the all-academic list.
Rounding out the individual honors, Presbyterian’s DeSean Murray is the freshman of the year and Radford senior Javonte Green the defensive player of the year on the men’s side, while for the women Presbyterian’s Cortney Storey claimed freshman of the year honors and Winthrop junior Schaquilla Nunn is defensive player of the year.
The Big South tournament opens with the women’s first-round matchups Tuesday at The HTC Center and first-round men’s action begins Wednesday.
