Coastal Carolina alum Campbell finishes third in hammer throw at national championships

Coastal Carolina alumna Amber Campbell finished third in the hammer throw Saturday at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Campbell, who throws for Mjolnir Throwers Club, had her meet-best toss of 234 feet, 1 inch in her sixth and final attempt to finish behind Nike athletes Amanda Bingson (246-3) and Jessica Cobsy Toruga (235-4).
Campbell won event at the meet in 2010 and 2012 and is a two-time Olympian.
Green Sea Floyds High School graduate Calesio Newman, who runs unattached, was entered in the 100- and 200-meter dashes but pulled out of the 200 semifinals with an injury on Friday.
Another former Trojan, Matthew Elliott, who runs for Brooks, failed to qualify for the finals in the 1,500 meters after finishing 28th in the preliminaries Thursday.
