Q: Hi Tonya, Please inform me what is the possible weather condition in Virginia or Washington DC during month of November. Thank you!

Answered 03/23/07 13:54:48 by Tonya Root

A: To all my readers out there please ask questions about weather conditions that pertain to the coastal Carolinas and more specifically the Grand Strand area. Since I live and work in the Myrtle Beach/Conway areas of South Carolina and know a bit about the weather in these areas I can answer those questions. But questions about the weather in Nice, France, Kansas or Washington, D.C., are out of my range of expertise. Thanks so much for your time and interest. I look forward to hearing from you.

Q: We will be arriving in Florida on July 28th and Departing on August 4th. How is the weather and do we need to worry about Hurricans?

Answered 03/20/07 20:05:38 by Tonya Root

A: Heather, I hear it's hot in Florida in July and August, so plan to be hot. Since I'm in Myrtle Beach, SOUTH CAROLINA I do not know much about the weather in Florida or even where exactly you're going since it's a big state. If you're going to vacation along one of the coasts of Florida you should be prepared to react if a hurricane threatens either in the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf. You should pay attention to what officials say and if asked to evacuate, you should leave. Hurricane season typically picks up during September, but a hurricane during July is not unheard of. Good luck with your Florida vacation.

Q: How crowded is it typically in Myrtle Beach in mid April

Answered 03/20/07 20:00:37 by Tonya Root

A: RCP, Myrtle Beach is not as crowded in April as it is in say July. Our busy season begins in April, but it's not at the height so you should be able to enjoy some breathing room if you visit during that time of year. Not to mention great weather along the Grand Strand.

Q: Tonya, My family and I will be visiting Surfsude Beach March 25-March 31. I was advised that there is quite a jump in temperatures from the beginning of March to the end (about 10 degrees). Do you have a resource that I could reference to show what last years temps were during this week?

Q: Is there a web site that would show what the normal ocean temperatures are for the different months. We usually come in October and the water is great, but we are planning on bringing our grandchildren with us either the end of March or the first of June.

Answered 02/27/07 23:42:05 by Tonya Root

A: Bob, Go to www.erh.noaa.gov/er/ilm/ for all the weather information you can handle for the Grand Strand. This is the site of the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C., and they produce hourly forecasts for much of the area. You should be able to find all the weather information you are searching for there. Good luck.

Q: We ex[ect to be in Myrtla Beach the week of April 9th, 2007. We've never been before. What do you expect the weather to be and what can we, as a family, look forward to doing?

Answered 02/27/07 23:40:16 by Tonya Root

A: As I stated previously to another reader, expect to enjoy some outdoor activities during your time here in April. Typically during that time in Apri the daytime highs are in the upper 60s to 70 degrees during the day with overnight lows falling to 50s. There are many activities along the Grand Strand for families to enjoy all you have to do is pick one. Good luck.

Q: We are planning a family vacation to Myrtle Beach for Spring Break this year. We will be staying from April 4th - 10th. Can we expect warm enough weather to enjoy the beach, outdoor pools and other activities?

Answered 02/27/07 23:39:00 by Tonya Root

A: Coming from Washington, D.C., you can expect much warmer weather in Myrtle Beach during your stay. Typically during that time in Apri the daytime highs are in the upper 60s to 70 degrees during the day with overnight lows falling to 50s. You should expect to enjoy many outdoor activities during your visit.

Q: What is the weather typically like in Myrtle Beach in the month of March?

Answered 02/27/07 23:29:57 by Tonya Root

A: Hello Kentucky, my home state. From living there I know you're ready to escape the cold snowy winter so March is a good time to visit the Grand Strand. You get good deals on hotel rooms, the beaches aren't as crowded and the weather is nice, but not hot. Typically in March you'll experience daytime highs in the upper 60s while overnight lows can dip into the upper 40s. The wind is strong during March, but it shouldn't deter you from making the trip and having a good time.

Q: Hi Tonya, I was wondering if you could tell me where I can find the average number of sunny days per month for Myrtle Beach. I am looking through other sources but the only thing that I can find is the average rainfall and that is not what I am needing. Thanks a lot.

Answered 02/27/07 23:27:27 by Tonya Root

A: Glenn, According to the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce web site we experience 215 days of sunshine out of 365 annually. Hope that helps and good luck.

Q: Will be staying in North Myrtle from June 9 - June 16 , what is the weather usually like during this time? Is the ocean waters warm? Thanks

Answered 02/27/07 23:24:32 by Tonya Root

A: Smokey, Coming from Ohio during June will be a nice break for you and your family. Temperatures generally during that time are in the mid to upper 80s during the day with overnight lows only dipping to the 70s. You will experience some scattered showers, but don't let it ruin your trip because they shouldn't last long. You will be coming during the start of hurricane season, so keep in mind if officials are watching a storm off the coast to follow their orders and procedures. By June you will experience ocean water temperatures in the 70s and 80s, which are perfect for taking a swim in the Atlantic Ocean.

Q: My family and I are planning a vacation to Myrtle Beach August 18th-25th.A friend warned us about hurricanes? What type of weather can we expect?

Answered 02/27/07 23:20:17 by Tonya Root

A: Ed, Typically during August in Myrtle Beach temperatures will be in the upper 80s for a daytime high and overnight low in the 70s, which is nice weather for the area. You might see some rain, but don't expect your time here to be a washout. You are arriving during hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30. We have had some brushes with tropical storms during late August, but the most active time for hurricanes along the Atlantic coast is September. My advice to you is watch weather reports and if a storm is looming in the Atlantic, don't let it spoil your trip, but watch what weather and emergency officals say about the storm and its threat to our coast. Enjoy your trip and good luck. Tonya

Q: Me and my family are planning a vacation on march the 11th. We are staying 6 nights and seven days I was wondering what the weather will be like. I hope its not freezing cold. We thought it would be a perfect temp that month. We would also like to know about how many people vacation there in the month of march. And what are some must eat at restaurants? We love jimmy buffets margaritaville. what is the best mexican and seafood? Thank you!

Answered 02/05/07 22:48:54 by Tonya Root

A: As I said in a previous post, expect some cooler weather at night during the month of March, but also plan on some nice days where the temperature can reach into the 70s. It should be a good time for you to visit as long as you prefer to take a light jacket along for nighttime activities. I am not sure how many people visit during the month of March and it depends on your taste as to what you think is a "must eat at restaurant" in the area. Good Luck and enjoy your visit.

Q: I live about 3-4 miles inland (Surfside Beach Area) and wonder if there is a website showing elevations and flood zones?

Answered 02/05/07 22:46:10 by Tonya Root

A: Go to www.horrycounty.org and then click on Hurricane Info from the left side. Once on the hurricane page click on Surge Maps and the first one from the list is Bucksport - Surfside. Hopefully that will help you see if you live in an area prone to storm surge.

Q: Tonya, I'm looking to visit Myrtle Beach the weekend of March 17th. Considering this is the later part of March, will I experience warmer days. (i.e. upper 60's to low 70's)

Answered 02/05/07 22:44:04 by Tonya Root

A: Steven, You could experience some warmer weather, but March tends to be a bit on the cooler side. The average for March 17 is 62 degrees, but last year at that time the high was 74 degrees and the low was 49. The next day the high only reached 61 degrees and the overnight low was 41. In 2005, the average temperature was in the 40s, so it can vary quite a bit. You should see some warmer daytime highs, but also expect some cooler weather overnight while you're here. Good luck and enjoy your stay.

Q: What has been the temperature in Wilmington, NC during the last week in April for the past few years? We are planning an outside wedding for five o'clock and would like an idea of what has happened in the past few years.

Answered 02/05/07 22:36:10 by Tonya Root

A: Since I am writing from Myrtle Beach, SC and am not familiar with Wilmington, N.C., which is about 100 miles up the coast, I am sorry I can not help you. But good luck with the outdoor wedding, though you might want to consider a backup plan since it does rain quite a bit during April.
