Support millage hike
for fire district
I am writing to urge my fellow neighbors living in the Murrells Inlet/Garden City Fire District to vote yes on March 17th on the referendum to increase the millage rate from 10 to 14 mills. We are currently less than half of the state’s average of 22.3 mills and this increase is critical in order to meet the growing safety needs of our community.
Unfortunately, I can personally attest to the importance of quick response time when three years ago this week, fire stuck at my restaurant in Murrells Inlet. The response time that fateful morning at 3:55 a.m. was under four minutes and if not for that, the entire Marshwalk could have been lost.
Passing this referendum will enable the district to add a desperately needed fourth station to the rapidly growing west side of Murrells Inlet, thereby improving response time and overall fire safety for all of us. Again, I urge everyone to come out on March 17th and vote yes on this critical issue.
