Jeb Bush misleads on Iraq like his brother
In his speeches this past week, Jeb Bush claimed that the current problems with ISIS in Iraq would have never occurred if President Obama had not pulled American forces out of Iraq far too early. Bush claims that when Obama removed those troops, it left a military void which ISIS was then able to fill.
One must assume that Bush has absolutely no knowledge of historical facts in order to make such an idiotic statement. Otherwise we would just have to assume Bush is is a pathological liar. (Both may actually be true.)
Will someone kindly tell Bush that Obama did not make any decisions regarding the dates to remove American forces from Iraq. Those dates were established and documented in the United States-Iraq Status of Forces Agreement, an International Treaty, negotiated between the leaders of Iraq - the Iraqis George W. Bush put in charge - and the administration of George W. Bush.
Acting on behalf of the United States, George W. Bush signed the Status of Forces Agreement in 2008. The agreement required that all U.S. Combat Forces would withdraw from Iraqi cities by June 30, 2009, and all U.S. forces would be out of Iraq by Dec. 31, 2011. The final U.S. troops were withdrawn from Iraq on December 16, 2011.
Obama had nothing to do with setting the dates when U.S. troops left Iraq. He merely acted in accord with the International Treaty signed by his predecessor.
Based on this statement by Jeb Bush, I think we can assume that this Bush would bring every bit as much candor and honesty to the presidency as his brother brought to that office.
Once again, it really does make you wonder how an individual of this quality can actually be considered a leader in the party of Lincoln.
