It seems every two years the same two words resonate from one campaign to another — public service. Democrat or Republican, they are the two words that candidates use to describe why they long to service, yet sadly these intentions — which many are well in the beginning — rarely follow through.
This leads to long political careers where the elected official benefits him or herself greatly at the hands of the communities that they’d promised to better.
Clif Smith, a Republican candidate for Horry County Council’s 5th District seat, is the exception to this ordinary politician. At age 60, he is not looking to make a career in politics if elected, rather he hopes to simply bring a sense of fiscal discipline and responsibility to County Council.
As a 35-year-business owner and resident of the South Strand, Clif not only knows how to manage a budget, but also understands the many complexities that face the Grand Strand as we head further into the 21st century.
Issues such as improving transportation, creating a business friendly environment, as well as allowing residents of Horry County to keep more of their hard earned dollars by keeping taxes as low as possible are issues a businessman like Clif is well suited to handle.
On June 10th I urge the citizens of the 5th District of Horry County to support Cliff Smith’s candidacy for County Council because if there’s one thing this former D.C. resident learned, career politicians serve special interests, not their constituents.
