Letters | A plea for someone to step up and save Inlet Square Mall

My husband and I have been coming to Garden City Beach for 14 years during the months of January, February and March.

My husband and I have been coming to Garden City Beach for 14 years during the months of January, February and March.

We love everything about this area, including the friendly people, great restaurants, the fresh produce in the grocery stores, and in most years, the 50- and 60-degree weather.

Inlet Square Mall is the jewel of the entire area. It is a pleasure to have such a wonderful shopping mall close to Murrell's Inlet, Garden City and Surfside Beach. We have watched over the years as it has declined. Each January, when we return, we hope that it will still be operating.

This year is the worst. K Mart is closing and many of the available stores remain unoccupied. I am writing this editorial with the purpose of extending a heads up to whoever is the decision maker on what happens to Inlet Square. This jewel will soon be lost to this area if nothing is done.

I do know that the new Coastal Grand mall is available for shoppers, but it is so large that it can be intimidating. Many of us just want a short drive and our favorite stores available, without walking what seems to be miles, from one end to the other. Inlet Square Mall provides this perfectly.

I urge those of you who live in the surrounding area to patronize Inlet Square first. This would certainly help to sustain the mall and add to its future occupancy.

If there is anyone who can save the Inlet Square, please start doing it now, because tomorrow may be too late.

The writer lives in Madison, N.Y.
