Having read the article in The Sun News on concerning the homeless in Columbia, I was appalled to read that the authorities in Columbia plan to punish the homeless for being homeless.
My wife and I are part of a group that has chosen to feed and cloth the homeless. In talking with them over a period of time, we have discovered that the vast majority, admittedly not all, have not entered this way of life by choice, but through a set of circumstances over which they have had no choice and which could easily become our lifestyle.
It is amazing to find so many good Bible-reading Christians who have forgotten the scripture lessons given to us, in which all of us are given the duty of giving of ourselves and our resources. All of us, are created in God’s image even though we may not have the assets others have. Homeless citizens are not “undesirables,” as some of our city officials refer to them.
Our group, small in numbers, foots all the costs of providing food and clothes for a number of homeless. By doing so, we are helping to relieve both the city and charities of more expenses involved in providing for those in need. Sadly, we do not live in the perfect world where we would find a lack of homeless and needy people.
