Letter | Stand-your-ground gun law encourages irresponsibility

First it should be said I support Concealed Carry and civilian firearm ownership, but having said that, a “duty to retreat” is fine with me.

What the “stand your ground” laws have done is give those who wet themselves at the sight of their own shadow carte blanc to blaze away whenever they may feel “threatened,” or are willing to lie under oath that they feared for their life.

They have taken away any initiative to avoid problems. They have opened the door for gunslingers to fulfill their fantasies and made it nearly impossible to effectively prosecute those who are armed and itching for a fight. They do not make the streets safer.
