There are no words that can really express to you the importance of the CIS (Communities In Schools) program in my life. I am a 46-year-old single parent of a 9-year-old boy.
We live in Leland, N.C. and I work in Wilmington, N.C. CIS is the ultimate support system for me and my son. My son was diagnosed with separation anxiety and has had some behavioral issues. The CIS afterschool staff at Lincoln Elementary School have been an immense help to us. They love, nurture and provide acceptable discipline for him. When he has done wrong, they talk and explain what other options he could have chosen to solve the problem.
Last summer was the first time my son attended the Brunswick County Summer Camp and as you can imagine the first few days were difficult, but soon he was jumping out the car running to the campsite that CIS oversees on a daily basis. With the help of CIS and a scholarship, child care and a wonderful summer experience was made possible for my son. I have no backup plan and my budget is pushed beyond my income.
I truly don’t know what I would do without CIS. I thank God for all of you. The CIS program has been a true blessing in my life. Please don’t stop what you do because there are children like my son who need the support and care. I wish there was a way to let more people know about the program.
Thanks to everyone who support CIS by donating monetarily, volunteering your time and/or your talent. It is much needed and greatly appreciated.
