Re: June 9 article “Commission: Road needs makeover”

The article about reducing lanes on Kings Highway between 21st Ave N and 17th Ave S sounds ludicrous to me.

During the summer months Kings Highway becomes a bumper to bumper parking lot even with six lanes. To reduce this thoroughfare to four lanes “to allow for more pedestrian traffic” makes absolutely no sense.

City officials may get their wish.

Bottlenecking traffic ever further will transform the highway into a parking lot. Pedestrians will be able to walk down the middle of the street between the cars.

If this plan has any hope, officials will need to be very creative in diverting traffic to a road that can accommodate the demands to create the atmosphere it wants on Kings Highway. How does the city convince hundreds of thousands of tourists to use a different north- south route than what's been the primary choice for over 50 years? Good luck with that.
