Re: May 30 letter by Ken Lee, “Memorial Day sesrvice lacked respect for vets”
I would first like to say that the music you say “blared” over the P.A. system and sung by the country music star was God Bless the USA.
The speech by President Bush was a memorial to honor more than 3,000 people killed by terrorists on September 11, 2001.
The music, both instrumental and vocal renditions, consisted of the National Anthem, God Bless America, America the Beautiful, Amazing Grace. and the hymns of all of our military forces played by an all-volunteer pipe band. I am not sure how you think this created a party atmosphere. I did not see anyone dancing, but there may have been a few tears.
Never miss a local story.
The only disrespect to Veterans was that of your letter to the editor criticizing a ceremony dedicated to the memory of our fallen comrades and presented by all volunteers, many of whom are veterans. All gladly gave their time to honor all veterans, both living and dead.
I suggest that next year you attend a Memorial Day service somewhere else, as we do not have any changes planned for our program.
