Two bike rallies, two experiences
I went to Ocean Boulevard and watched the Harley bikers on May 18. The police presence was overwhelming. Police on bikes, Segways, unmarked cars and on foot. The police were exercising their authority by not allowing anyone to lean against the wall and railing at the park or sit on the steps at Ripleys. I spent about two hours there and saw no excessive revving of motorcycle engines, no loud or obscene behavior and it was a very nice evening.
I returned on May 25 and saw very little police presence. Larger crowds and more motorcycles and fewer police, why? People sat on the steps at Ripleys and were leaning on the wall at the park and not once did any police make them move, why?
The revving of engines and loud obscene behavior was the norm and one would assume that with so few officers, enforcement would have been impossible. I felt sorry for the families who booked a vacation without knowing what they would be subjected to.
