I’m sorry, Sun News, that the protest by Coastal Carolina University students against commencement speaker Sen. Tim Scott was done in a professional manner. There was a petition that procured close to 600 signatures by students, faculty and other supporters in a little over a week. They also picketed and handed protest cards to Dr. DeCenzo as they received their diplomas.
There were no loud disruptions, turning over cars or setting the campus on fire, all things the media thrive on. To quote Sen. Scott from his commencement speech, “Standing out in a crowd requires standing up for someone who can’t.” that’s exactly what those CCU students did, and I for one am proud of them.
