I am a junior at Early College High school, and I want to make a difference in a child’s life by mentoring them. I was shocked at how many children in Horry County are homeless or do not live in a stable home environment. After learning about the effects this has on a child, I realized how important it is that teens in our area get involved by mentoring a child. I have recently become involved by volunteering with Sea Haven’s Project Lighthouse in Myrtle Beach.

Sea Haven in an emergency crisis center for young adults who are runaways or homeless; this is place that they can turn to for everything they may need. Project Lighthouse has many branches, I volunteer at Kidz Village in Longs.

Volunteering at Kidz Village has been a great privilege and has countless benefits not only for me but also for the children there. If volunteering is not your thing, there are many other things you can do to help out. So get out and get involved!
