As a resident for 30-plus years, I have numerous times been offended by Myrtle Beach being pointed out as a trashy beach. I have always taken staycations until this year.
I decided to vacation in Daytona Beach, Fla., this year to be able to have my grown children visit. I want to preface my next comments with that I love Myrtle Beach and would never leave. However, I now can believe how our home has been placed on the trashiest lists.
Daytona is absolutely pristine. At sunrise there are folks emptying the trash cans on the beach, driving the boulevard picking up trash, pruning shrubs, and doing all the things that we would do to our own personal homes. Daytona is very clean and pristine. We as a tourist destination could learn a lot from how they do things here.
I still would not change my residence, but maybe we should check our egos and place more attention to our appearance.
