I’m not sure what it takes to get this community to open its eyes and see the reality of our homeless kids.
I am the founder of Horry County Teens and Infants Shelter Home. I am dedicated, unconditionally funded 65 percent of the program personally. We have helped 12 girls, three infants and two toddlers in the last six months. I have moved out of my personal home to sleep on a couch and care for these girls and their infants 24 hours a day.
I recently applied for grants locally, none of which are for operational expenses. Funds are needed for a garage to be remodeled into an intake office; our bathroom to be remodeled; and a playground. When those deciding on the funding go before God are they going to say these girls and their infants weren’t worth the funding?
A local civic group promised a donation of $10,000 to be distributed quarterly at $2,500 only for us to be told a week ago that oopsy, they are giving $2,000 at $500 quarterly.
That’s a generous donation, but why change from original $10,000?
