The real story in liquor store owners’ fight against state law changes is how these small operators want state protection for their little monopolies to continue charging S.C. consumers higher liquor prices. This happens due to the small retailer’s inability to purchase in volume at a bulk quantity discount from the distributors. All the rhetoric about the taxes they pay and jobs is simple baloney to protect these little monopolies and extra cost to SC liquor consumers.
The March 31 headline should have said, “S.C. liquor retailers demand high liquor prices for S.C. consumers.”
