I would like to extend a very big thank you to Bob Bestler for his March 23 column, “Honor veterans by hiring them.” His voice showing appreciation and respect to all veterans is something that we really need to see and hear.
Too many of these military personnel are left on the sidelines because no one knows their pain. That's probably because most don't talk about it; they either don't want to relive their experiences or don't want to appear as a burden. They have been taught to be brave, strong, committed to saving other people's lives. Employers should learn to have more awareness of the skills and dedication of these men and women. In addition to leaving their own families, many gave up careers and good jobs to put their lives on the line. They truly deserve a chance.
I applaud the organizations that exist to help veterans cope with their lives as they return from duty as well as those who are haunted by previous tours. And I applaud and thank all who have served.
