Sitting in the audience watching a play being performed made me feel like I was watching a premiere performance of a headline play on Broadway in New York City. In reality, I was watching the “Phantom of the Opera” at Carolina Forest High School. Without question it was an outstanding performance done by a cast of excellent actors. The singing, the dancing and acting as well the music was that of a well-disciplined, seasoned cast of Broadway actors and musicians.
Wayne Canady, Rebecca Bannon, Bryan Beaman, Erica Pike and Kraig McBroom transformed high school students to Broadway performers and the musicians into Carnegie Hall concert performers. Principal Gaye Driggers must be extremely proud of her staff, and last night, as we left the performance, the smile on the principal’s face radiated with joy as her students mingled in the lobby.
If you have not attended, you will be missing one of the grandest stage performances of the year. We don’t give enough credit to students who achieve excellence and the teachers and staff who work with them and encourage them.
