Is it true welfare rolls have vastly increased due to immigration? If so, it is certainly not going to stop anytime soon. Apparently it’s part of President Obama’s social agenda to share and spread the wealth, to feed the poor, clothe the naked, and in general, to fix the misery he saw while growing up. Noble aspirations indeed. I wish him great success.
There is something to be said for his largesse. Frankly, speaking as a Roman Catholic, he is fulfilling the Gospel of Jesus Christ. “What you do for the least of these my little ones, you do so for me.” According to all Christian scripture and many non-Christian interpretations as well, we will be judged most severely for failing action on this single command.
However, the problem for most U.S. taxpayers is the methodology being used by President Obama to get this done. Albeit noble, there are large increased taxes, huge spending, threats of sequestration, monumental national debt, no immigration control, no balanced budget, a national Medicare/Medicaid plan and a Social Security program that will certainly bring the nation to its fiscal knees within a decade if not attended to very soon.
There have been reports by some states that welfare and food stamp money is not being spent for what it was intended. Certainly most of it is being used for food and shelter, but there is also proof it is spent on drugs, alcohol, gambling, et al. So how do both the state and federal governments control this travesty? And who is going to control this? And how will this be controlled? And when will this control start? Each is an important question, because if ignored, we have failed; and the suffering continues.
There is an idiom in politics that surely comes into play here. It’s been used before, and on both sides of the aisle ad nauseam. It goes like this: “Those who can, do. Those who can’t , complain incessantly about the decisions made by those who can.” Doubt this? Just watch the news for a single day, both the liberal and conservative views. You may need a stiff adult beverage by day’s end!
This insanity has got to stop. The Congress has got to stop conducting business as usual and start worrying about more than just getting re-elected. If Congress doesn’t start working together right away, the rich, the poor and the nation are all doomed. The printing presses can’t run forever. Sound like science fiction? Stay tuned.
