I just read that Horry County entered into an agreement with WestJet to guarantee $1 million in revenue. I do not know how many people will want to visit Myrtle Beach once the reality show “Myrtle Manor” airs.
From what I have heard and read about the show, it is an embarrassment to the local community.
Why the city and local chamber of commerce have not objected to airing of the show is beyond me. They have placed an additional 1 percent tax for advertising to lure tourists to the Grand Strand and grow the economy, then they allow TV producers to tell the world this is a sample of how the residents of the area live and work.
The state of West Virginia halted production of a reality show that was putting the state in a bad light.
I fear that Myrtle Beach will become a late-night TV joke, and tourists will go elsewhere. How or where the county will get the $1 million after that will be interesting to watch.
