Re Feb. 5 letter by Tom Archer, “Immigration plan disrespecting real Americans”
The Sun News printed a letter from a writer in Carolina Shores, N.C., which concluded with the statement “Obama should be charged with conspiratorial and treasonable actions … and be impeached immediately in lieu of execution, so according to the law.”
The writer’s reasons for such a statement were two-fold. First, Obama illegally violated the Constitution by appointments made while congress was in “intra-session,” and secondly, that he now wants to grant all illegal immigrants American citizenship.
As to the alleged illegal appointments, President Obama has made 26 “intra-session” appointments. Before we begin impeachment procedures, please realize that George W. Bush made over 140 such appointments, and Ronald Reagan made over 70 of them. I suspect Fox News may have overlooked these figures.
Regarding the immigration issue, the writer uses phrases such as “You disrespect all veterans” and “who died and made you God?” He then goes into a rant about immigrants not wanting to learn English and “forcing us to learn your language.” Who is forcing you to learn Spanish?
The amnesty proposal, as it stands now, would require illegal immigrants to come forward, pay a fine and all back taxes. Then you go to the rear of the waiting list, which could be as long as 12 years. While waiting, they are required to learn to speak English.
As to your impeach Obama in lieu of execution idea, please realize that Ronald Reagan passed an amnesty type law in 1986 which opened citizenship for 3 million illegal immigrants, and the following quote comes from George W Bush in 2001:
“Immigration is not a problem to be solved; it is a sign of a confident and successful nation. Their arrival should be greeted not with suspicion and resentment, but with openness and courtesy.”
Impeachment in lieu of execution?
The writer lives in Surfside Beach.
