We appreciate the Jan. 27 article, “Is MB crime rate a worry?” by Andrew Davis. We believe that there is a crime problem in the Myrtle Beach area and that some of the contributing factors are as follows:
Inconsistent laws throughout the area. For example, laws vary from three to six pages depending on where the crime takes place
Lack of concern by our by our leaders. For example, despite a petition signed by about 1,100 of our people to improve laws, none of our leaders responded to our registered mail. In fact, Myrtle Beach rejected two attempts at delivery because the mayor was not in his office; why can’t they hold the mail until he returned to office? This is a poor example of representation.
The number of strip clubs and escort services throughout our environment contributes to criminal activity such as shootings and fighting.
Signs advertising nude reviews at 7 p.m. should not be allowed as shown along any of our streets.
We should all do as much as we can to improve the responsiveness of our leadership.
