Re Jan. 23 article, “Stay of execution granted for Longs man in officer’s death”
The front page article certainly was an attention grabber. I can’t help but wonder why this person was given a stay of execution again – what pleadings can he possibly still have after brutally killing a police officer with the police officer’s own gun after so many years? He certainly didn’t give our friend Cpl. Dennis Lyden a stay of execution.
I’m sure Dennis pleaded for his life; he had so much to live for and was such a special person. James Nathaniel Bryant has been convicted and sentenced twice to death for the beating and shooting of Cpl. Lyden. Enough is enough – his fate has been long decided, nothing he has to say excuses or forgives that brutal killing. Why should he have the opportunity to live 13 more years than Cpl. Lyden?
Bryant has clearly taken advantage of the system – not even having to worry where his next meal is coming from or where he’ll sleep every night, plus free health care. Does that seem fair after what he did in cold blood? That’s not justice – the justice Cpl. Lyden so deserved but that Bryant brutally took from him and all of us that cared for Dennis Lyden.
Bryant also did not deserve a front page article in your newspaper.
