Letters to the Editor

Rather than complain about shaggers, why not join us?

In response to Michael Clodfelter’s opinion of shaggers occupying his local restaurant and bar (Jan. 23 letter, “Non-shaggers left out by restaurants, clubs”), I do offer an apology for his inconvenience while the shaggers were in town. However, I would like to remind Michael that when the shaggers come to North Myrtle Beach, our impact on the areas bars, restaurants, and hotels are estimated to be $10 million, each time we are in town.

I also want to say that we have been part of this community for 32 years, starting in 1980. We help to perpetuate the clubs he is referring to, but I also know that the clubs take care of their local and regular customer during SOS events. Many of our SOS members are property owners in the North Myrtle Beach area.

The $35 membership fee will be your best investment, Michael. You would become a member of the largest, friendly, loving and caring family of friends, all because of this lifestyle created around our state dance, shag, and the music we love. Our philanthropic endeavors help to support the community of North Myrtle Beach, Caring for Kids, Shop with a Cop, and American Red Cross, to mention a few.

The writer is president of SOS.
