What happened to reason on guns?

I have listened to all the rhetoric on both sides on gun control and I wonder if there will ever be a voice of reason that will be heard.

When our Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution and in the Second Amendment granted everyone the right to bear arms, the arms of the day and the arms they were talking about was a single shot musket or rifle.

Two-hundred and fifty years later the NRA interprets the right to bear arms for law abiding citizens to include assault rifles and other firearms with high capacity ammunition magazines.

My question is, who are these law abiding citizens going to assault with these assault rifles?

I wouldn’t surprise me if 50 years from now the NRA would have the position that every law abiding citizen is entitled to have a machine gun, a bazooka and a grenade launcher. Those poor deer and bears in the forest won’t have a chance. And if anyone blows up a building with a bazooka, the NRA will say the same as it says today; it’s not the bazooka, it’s the person.

I don’t know who can stop the NRA. The president can’t, no matter how reasonable he sounds; and Congress is afraid to, as I see it.

As comedian D.L. Hughly said on Jay Leno’s tonight show, “Are these people expecting a home invasion from Afghanistan?

Again I ask, will the voice of reason ever be heard?
