As a resident of Pawleys Island for 12 years now, I find it incredible that there is not a veterinarian on call for emergencies after 5 p.m. As an animal owner, I have spent thousands of dollars for the care of my dogs. I also understand that it is my choice to have the dogs, but they are members of our family!
On Saturday, our 14-year-old husky became very ill. I had to take her to Myrtle Beach, 30 minutes away.
I understand the cost that are associated with this type of business and applaud the doctors that are willing to help. However, I can’t believe that there is no interest in Pawleys Island or Murrells Inlet in setting up this type of clinic. As residents we must take our beloved animals to Myrtle Beach or Mount Pleasant. This is a shame. You would think that they could certainly figure out how to be on call and rotate to help the local citizens and their furry friends. I certainly hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
