Enforce current laws before making new ones

With all of the tragic recent events and the ensuing talk about gun control, I feel obligated to offer the following:

One day you hear from the media that Myrtle Beach ranks 21st in the nation in violent crime (Yes, I know the numbers can be argued, but we definitely have more than our share) and the next day, you read that an individual that shot someone during an argument is given a sentence of three years’ probation, plus time served for the crime which occurred less than a year ago.

Come on, people. This criminal did not shoot at the person or merely point the gun at him. He shot him. You do not shoot another person to scare him. Anytime you shoot another person, it is attempted murder. A gun will kill a person.

My point is, let’s enforce the laws we already have and sentence accordingly, instead of making more laws that we can’t enforce.
