Recently while reading Reader’s Digest, I came upon some alarming statistics, which are humiliating to me as a law-abiding citizen/taxpayer of South Carolina. Below are a few:

S.C. ranks No. 35 in best roads category

S.C. ranks No. 3 in deadliest roads

S.C. ranks No. 2 in deadliest for DUI

S.C. ranks No. 3 in deadliest for speeding

These are atrocious statistics.

I implore our leaders to take necessary steps to right the matters.

Also, cell phone and texting use while driving is like driving drunk – over 25 states have laws prohibiting such uses. President Obama may beat you all to the punch by imposing federal law.

Do the right thing. You know what needs to be done.

Twenty-eight percent of all accidents are caused by idiots on a cell phone or texting while driving.

Senator Rankin’s proposal is a bloodied Band-Aid; it’s only a symbolic move.
