A young man has a sickness. His mother owns guns. He takes them and kills very young, innocent children and others. Families mourn. A nation weeps.
The media overreacts, as usual. An outcry arises. Emotions take over. Freedom is in jeopardy. Everyone has an opinion. Government wants control.
The above all occurred. Is the problem solved? Can the government solve the problem? Exactly what is the problem? The problem is Evil with a capital E. Evil lives in the mind of some individuals, but it does not live in all minds. Because an evil act is committed by a person does not mean everyone must be punished. We must recognize the evil all around us and work to stamp it out.
The answer is not more laws, government control. Laws drive evil underground. Government control always injuries citizens in some way and freedoms of many kinds are lost.
Living in fear and giving in is not the answer. Fear makes us unable to act and overrides good judgment. Giving in brings more control and lost of freedoms.
Two answers are: Teaching individuals that there is a huge difference between what is right and what is wrong and teaching that each person is totally responsible for his or her own actions at all times.
Guns have always been in the American society. Sometimes they are used for good and sometimes they are used for evil. The gun doesn’t know the difference, but people should.
Do you? Are you teaching your children to know right from wrong? If not, why not?
