Help for Kids was formed in 1989 following Hurricane Hugo to help kids in the remote parts of Horry County. Today, many of the same needs still exist for those areas and Help for Kids helps over 2,000 kids each week with snacks and other basic needs. When the Christmas season is here, our mission grows.
This Christmas the organization was able to reach its more than 2,000 kids, distributing essentials such as food (chickens, hams, turkeys, rice, etc.), clothing (jeans, sneakers, hoodies, underwear, etc.), personal items (toothbrushes, soap, etc.) and toys to open on Christmas morning.
Thanks to a partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and the Toys for Tots program, we were able to ensure that another group of kids were reached – making it possible for over 2,000 kids to have toys to open on Christmas morning.
This was all made possible by donations from many individuals and from many businesses – builders, restaurants, churches, community organizations and more. Additionally, we have an extremely dedicated cadre of volunteer workers. The financial and moral support this community gave Help for Kids made this 2012 Christmas season a wonderful and memorable one. We wish you could see the precious smiles and excitement for these families and kids who had toys to open from Saint Nick and food to eat on Christmas Day.
Our organization simply could not reach this incredibly large number of needy kids without the help of so many people and organizations that truly care about the kids not only during the Christmas Season but all year round. So many are willing to share their resources, time and assistance -- and we are so thankful to you.
Again, a warm thanks to this entire community that has helped us with our mission of reaching kids in the county for over 20 years. Thanks for sharing and helping us ensure that these kids had food, clothing, and toys to open on Christmas morning. Your help was truly a blessing. And may God bless you all.
