Respect the office of the president if not the man

I'm getting very tired of people bashing our current president in such a disrespectful manner. I understand that people may have honest differing opinions on many different political matters, but our American culture and institutions need to be respected.

The level of vitriol that some people hurl at President Obama goes way past honest differences and their underlying source in most cases is just blatant racism. It's even sadder when these opinions come from people who consider themselves Christians and/or have served in the military. I have always heard that the reason for saluting people in the military is out of respect for the uniform, no matter who is wearing it, so why isn't it the same for the holder of our highest political office who is also the commander in chief of our armed services?

President Obama is our first, and twice fairly elected, African-American president, so people need to get over that fact and themselves and move on with life in the 21st century.
